Frequently asked questions

The honest answers

What is ShotCard?

ShotCard turns your photo's camera settings — aperture, shutter speed, ISO, lens, and more — into a clean, shareable card for social media. Drop in a photo, pick a style, export. It reads the settings automatically from the photo file.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device. There's no server, no account, and no upload — which also means it's fast, and your unreleased shots stay yours. More in the privacy page.

Why does my photo say "NO DATA"?

Some files don't contain camera information — usually because an app stripped it (screenshots, some messaging apps, some exports) or the photo was scanned or shot on film. You can type any values in yourself in the Camera Info panel.

What's the little * on some cards?

If you change a value away from what the photo file actually said — fixing a wrong lens name, adding data for an adapted lens — the card marks that value with an asterisk and a short note that it was adjusted by the photographer. It keeps the cards honest, and it's not removable by design.

What files work?

JPEGs straight from your camera, Lightroom, or Photoshop work best. PNG and TIFF also load. RAW files aren't supported in the web app — export a JPEG first.

My shutter speed is minutes long — will it show right?

Yes. Long exposures display properly ("2m 20s"), with no 30-second cap.

Does it remember my settings?

Yes — your template, fonts, colors, watermark, and logo are remembered on your device, and you can save named presets for different looks. It's per-browser, so your phone and laptop each keep their own.

Can I use it like an app on my phone?

Yes. Open shotcard.app in your phone's browser and choose "Add to Home Screen" — it installs like an app and keeps working even without a signal.

What are the export options?

PNG or JPEG at up to 2160px wide. You can export one card, copy it straight to your clipboard, or batch-export every photo in your queue as a single ZIP.

What's with the sports templates?

Football field, basketball court, baseball diamond, and running track backgrounds — made for sports and team photographers. The football field doubles nicely for soccer and cheer, and the court works for volleyball.

Is it really free?

Yes, ShotCard is free to use. If you like it, sharing a card (they carry a small "made with shotcard.app" mark) is the best thanks — and if it saved you real time, there's a tip jar. Neither is expected.

Who made this?

I'm Nathaniel Rohr — IT by day, photographer and producer the rest of the time. ShotCard came out of wanting a better way to share camera settings, especially for sports work.
